SUBJECT: News from the Farm - Nov. 3, 2017

News from Mrs. Merriam

Happy November! It is hard to believe that we are moving so fast through the school year. The first quarter ends on Nov. 6, and with it brings Parent Conference opportunities on Monday afternoon, Nov. 6 and the morning of Tuesday, Nov. 7, which is Election Day and a student holiday.

Safety is our number one concern on the Farm so please remember to always walk your child in to the office if you arrive after the adults on morning drop-off duty have gone inside. Remind bus riders to wait until the bus stops and the doors open before approaching the bus and walkers to cross streets carefully. When our parking lot is full, please park on the street. Do not park in the Virginia Women’s Center lot unless it is after 6 pm.

Thanks so much for your support, and I look forward to seeing you at our fall happenings on the Farm!

Shop our Barnes & Noble Book Fair: Nov. 4-9

Our annual Barnes & Noble book fair is this Saturday, Nov. 4. Stop by the Short Pump location between 10 am and 4 pm to get a jump start on your holiday shopping, grab a tasty treat from the cafe and enjoy story times and activities with your favorite NFE teachers and staff. Get the day's schedule.

Get Ready to Trot!

Join us on the bus loop on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 8:30 am for our annual Turkey Trot. Mrs. Sweeney will start things off with fun stretches and then we’ll be off! In this non-competitive, fun, family event, participants can run, walk, hop or skip as many laps as they like around the Turkey Trot course. Afterward, all are invited to enjoy hot beverages and light snacks.

This is a free event, but we'll be collecting donations of canned goods for the Henrico Christmas Mother and hats and mittens for Johnson Elementary, our sister school.

Don't want to trot? Sign up to volunteer. Contact Nevine Anderson or Sheryl Santos.

STEM + Families Math Night

Join us on Monday, Dec. 4 from 6-7:30 pm for a STEM + Families Math Night. We'll have free pizza for all who attend plus door prizes for parents and kids who participate in all 10 activity stations! All children must have an adult with them to engage in the evening's interactive games. RSVP today!

Don't forget to share photos from classroom and school activities including fall enrichment, Fall Festival, family picnic and field trips for possible inclusion in the yearbook. Sharing is easy on our yearbook company's secure web site (enter 10385 for NFE), or share directly from your phone using the free Herff Jones eShare app. Get more info here.

SCHOOL NEWS

Missing Something?

The clinic is overflowing with lost and found items. If your young fox has misplaced a coat, sweatshirt or other item this year, please check the clinic when you are at school for conferences. Items not claimed by early November will be donated to Johnson Elementary.

From the Art Room

Next week Nuckols Farm has two art events. Monday is the Lewis Ginter Elementary Art opening where Ella B. has her watercolor Koi fish on display. If you go to Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden in the next three months, checkout her beautiful painting as well as all the amazing elementary artwork from the county.

On Thursday, over 60 children will have their artwork in the Our Lady of Hope Art Show. Your children will receive an invitation on bright yellow paper if they have their work on display. This show will have work from Kindergarten through fifth grade.

Your students have been creating awesome artwork using a variety of materials. Check out the halls if you stop by school.

If you would like to donate to the art room, we are currently in need of more wipes. Your child can drop them off to me in the art room or in the office. Thanks for your support and the privilege of teaching your children,

Nancy de Nijs
