News from Mrs. Merriam

Happy March! What a wonderful March we have had ALREADY! It came in like a lion and continues to roar! Papa John’s Pizza Teacher Delivery Night was a huge success despite the freezing temperatures and rain. Teachers and staff were dressed up, showing their school spirit and happily visiting our students’ homes with dinner. Shrieks of delight and wide smiles were great rewards as our children rushed to answer their doorbells to receive their pizzas from staff. Thank you, Stephanie Denholm and Papa John’s for organizing a super evening.

The STEAM Museum, our largest PTA-provided cultural arts experience, has been a wonderful way to spark student interest in some great activities, and thanks to Brooke Bennett and many, many dedicated volunteers, has been a BLAST for our foxes! The STEAM Museum ran all day yesterday and continues through today. Be sure to ask your child(ren) about this experience!

As March progresses, thanks go to our magical music teacher, Mrs. Christine Donovan, and our amazing art teacher, Mrs. Nancy deNijs, who are collaborating on projects and working singularly to provide our foxes with some incredible opportunities to shine in various ways. March is both Music in our Schools and Youth Art Month, and our school will be busy celebrating both! First graders are gearing up for their performance on March 20. DRUM participants, fourth graders Cyane B., Barrett D., Beau F., Bianca G., Jackson H., Norah S., Caleb S., Iain S., London S., and Nathan Z., and fifth graders Sarah C., Andrew C., Andrew E., Baylee H., Elizabeth K., Josh K., Evie O., Carson S., Isobel S., and Nathan S. are practicing their skills while All County Chorus members Sara C., Elizabeth K., Shannon M., and Reagan N. will represent us well at the county level. Artists Kalynn E., Isobel S., Rishab K., and William S. have already had art in various shows, and we look forward to both our large Our Lady of Hope Art Show and West Creek Emergency Center Art Show, which will showcase MANY works of art. Thank you, ladies, for providing our students with these opportunities and many more!

Mrs. Crockett, our sensational school counselor, has planned an exciting Career Day for all students. Our third, fourth, and fifth grade foxes will learn about different career opportunities on March 22, while our kindergartners, first, and second graders will experience Career Day on the following day, March 23. Thank you, volunteers and Mrs. Crockett, for orchestrating this outstanding opportunity. As we look towards our spring break, which falls during the first week of April this year, please continue to congratulate your children on their successes and encourage them to keep up the momentum. Our Nuckols Farm family enjoys working together as a team of support for our children!

Many thanks for your time and support,

Lisa Merriam

It’s March, and we are celebrating Youth Art Month and Music in our Schools Month. We have several art shows taking place and coming up, as well as art on display throughout our school. Congratulations to Kaylynn E. who represents our school in the SunTrust Bank Art Show with her Kandinsky giraffe, Leigha S. whose Cityscape with fireworks is on display at Henrico County’s Central Office throughout March, and Isobel S. who represents Nuckols Farm in the School Board Art Show. Her piece, foil fish, will hang in the County’s Central Office for the next year.

March 14 is wear primary colors day – wear red, yellow and blue. On March 24 and 25, the Henrico County A.R.T.S. Festival will take place at Freeman H.S. from 10 am-4 pm each day. Over 50 students from Nuckols Farm will have artwork displayed there. Everyone is invited to see the beautiful artwork from all the schools and have fun creating arts and crafts. If your child is in the show, you will receive a special invitation soon. More art shows will be coming in April. It’s an exciting and creative time in art class. Thanks for sharing your wonderful and talented children with me. I’m having a great time, and I am thankful to be a part of your school.

Mrs. de Nijs

P.S. We would love to have more 32 oz. yogurt containers. Please have your children drop them off in the art room if you have them. If you would like to donate wipes, it would be greatly appreciated.
