SUBJECT: News from the Farm - October 5, 2018

News from Mrs. Metzger

Happy Fall, Fox Families! Thank you so much to everyone who came out last Thursday for the Family Picnic. It was a huge success! We have two events coming up in the month of October. On Tuesday, October 16th, our 3rd graders will be presenting the program “Out of This World”. Then, on Friday, October 26th, we will host the annual Fall Festival. Please make plans to attend these two events to support our students and our school.

A few other happenings that will be taking place at The Farm include:

-          October 8th â€“ Student Holiday (No School for Students)

-          October 15th â€“ Reflections Entries Due

-          October 18th â€“ Individual and Class Picture Day

Also, over the next week the NFES SCA will be holding a coin drive to collect money for a school in New Hanover, North Carolina that was devastated by Hurricane Florence. Let’s show that “Kindness is the New Cool” by working together to raise money for this community!

Thank you for all that you do each day to support NFES!

In partnership,

Crystal Metzger

Volunteers and Food Donations Needed! Tickets on Sale Soon!

The NFES Annual Fall Festival is right around the corner (October 26) and we need your help to make it a success! Parents can now sign up to volunteer at the festival here on Membership Toolkit. Most shifts are 45 minutes, but if you are interested in playing a bigger role, we still have an opening to head our Games Committee. This role is primarily needed for the day of the event, to oversee game set up and clean up, etc. Please email Shannan at shannanPTA@gmail.com if you are willing to help! We will also be collecting food donations (chips, drinks and baked goods) to be sold in the food court the night of the festival. Sign up to donate one of these items on Membership Toolkit

Fall Festival tickets will go on sale Monday, October 8 on Membership Toolkit!

If you or your company is interested in being a sponsor for our Fall Festival or donating to the silent auction, please email Shannan and let her know! It is our families and community that make this event a huge success and helps us to purchase educational materials for our children. Thank you for your support!

SCHOOL NEWS

Student Council Association Coin Drive

Our SCA is hosting a coin drive from October 1 through October 11 for a K-8 school in New Hanover County, NC. This area has been devastated by Hurricane Florence and flooding and the schools remain closed. We have been in touch with New Hanover County schools and there is a huge need for help! Many of the families have lost absolutely everything.  All of the monies raised by NFES will go directly to them. Please bring your extra coins and dollars and drop them in the buckets in the front office until October 11!

Hello! I have enjoyed spending September in introductory classroom guidance lessons and meeting with new students in grade level groups. In our introductory lessons, I’ve shared the role of a school counselor and procedures for making appointment with me. Your child may ask his or her teacher or write me a note to create an appointment. I invite parents to call or e-mail with any requests for individual counseling. I look forward to meeting with students during the month of October for bullying prevention lessons. Did you know that nationwide data shows that bullying rates have dropped? Many attribute this to fine-tuned interventions and better awareness. Two of my favorite websites with information about bullying prevention are https://pacerkidsagainstbullying.org and https://www.stopbullying.gov. Feel free to check them out.

Mrs. Crockett, School Counselor

News from Mrs. Sweeney

Congratulations to the NFES students that participated in the Short Pump Mile last Sunday! Money received from 2 awards will be used for our P.E. program and for playground equipment.

Jump Rope Club for students in grades 2-5 will begin on Friday, October 12. Contact Mrs. Sweeney with any questions.

From the Art Room:

Come check out the beautiful art work on display at the Twin Hickory Library. Over 35 works of art from Kindergarten - 5th grade students is on display for the month of October. The students are working hard and doing a great job. If your child’s work is hanging up in the library, you would have received a pink letter sent home. I am very proud of our artists and hope that you all can stop by sometime and check it out.

Thank you for the tennis balls. I could use a few more if you have old ones.

Thanks,

Nancy de Nijs, Art Teacher
