SUBJECT: News from the Farm - October 19, 2018

News from Mrs. Metzger

Hello Fox Families! October is a busy month at The Farm. This coming week, October 22 – 26, is School Bus Safety Week. This is a nationally recognized week designed to promote bus safety. Please take the time next week to say thank you to your child’s bus driver for all that they do to transport your child to and from school safely each day.

Parent conferences are coming up soon! Conferences will be held on Monday, November 5 from 2:45 pm – 6 pm and on Tuesday, November 6 from 8:15 am – 11 am. If you have not signed up for a conference, please ensure that you do so. This is a great opportunity for you to gain a better understanding of your child’s academic progress and how you can continue to support them at home.

Thank you so much for all that you do for NFES. I look forward to seeing you and your family at the Fall Festival next Friday, October 26!

SCA Coin Drive was a Success!

Thank you so much for your donations to the SCA coin drive. The International School of Gregory in New Hanover, NC is so appreciative of our help! They have not returned to their school yet, but have resumed classes at another school close by. With your help, we were able to raise $305! And thank you to J. Rocco"s Pizza, who made a donation of $100 to help with our efforts. An amazing total of $405! Your kindness has made a huge difference - thank you!

Have You Ordered Your Yearbook?

NFES Yearbooks are a great keepsake of your child’s school year and will be filled with great color photos of each class and events from the year. Children always enjoy signing each other’s yearbooks during the last week of school, so be sure to order your copy today!

Reflections Update

At this time, all entries for the 2018 PTA Reflections Contest have been submitted. We want to congratulate all students and families who have participated this year. Currently, we have 32 projects submitted for judging, and it takes parents committed to celebrating a student's love of Art in all forms to make that possible! The exciting piece, is that Art is alive all around us, and we have already started planning for the 2019 PTA Reflections Contest as we put the final touches on this year. Stay tuned for more information in the weeks to come as we are reviewing each project for judging and reaching out to families with questions we may have. Read more about Reflections.

Book Fair Coming Soon!

Join us at the Short Pump Barnes & Noble on Saturday, November 3 for our annual book fair. Get a head start on your holiday shopping and support NFES at the same time! Stay tuned for more details.

Have you seen the adorable fox magnets on cars around town?

Donations to our Fox Fund directly support the amazing programs on the Farm as well as the purchase of new classroom equipment. All donors will receive a magnet to show their Fox pride! Check out Membership Toolkit for more information on the Fox Fund or to make a donation.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Calling all coaches! We have many students interested in Lego League but coaches are needed for these teams in grades 1-3. First Lego League, Jr. is a STEM-based program that introduces students to building and engineering concepts through the use of LEGOs and later, robotics. Please contact Jenny Scott, Lego League Coordinator with any questions or to volunteer!

Sign-up for a volunteer library shift on Membership Toolkit! The tasks are super easy, and it is a great way to see the school. Tasks include shelving, straightening, delivering media to classrooms and laminating. Contact Amy Lawson with questions.

Cafeteria volunteers are needed to help students at lunch by passing out supplies and opening food packages. Shifts are 11:10 am-12:10 pm and 12:00-1:00 pm. Schedule yourself on a minimal basis or sign up for weekly shifts. Sign up now (get instructions here), or contact Sue Boling.

Meet our Volunteers of the Month

Congratulations to Suzanne Heller and Marilou Woolstenhulme, October's Volunteers of the Month! Suzanne, Room Parent Coordinator, did an amazing job filling every room parent position and planning and implementing their training. Marilou Woolstenhulme is brand new to Nuckols Farm and jumped right in to help with the Fall Festival's Silent Auction. NFES is lucky to have such awesome volunteers!
