Notes from Mrs. Metzger

Fox Families,

It is hard to believe that this is the final newsletter of the school year. As we close out this school year, we say goodbye to our retirees: Karen Cooke, Ann Tyler Allen, Kathy Sweeney, Freda Pressley, and Deborah Denson (in October).  We are so thankful for their service to our students and the Nuckols Farm Community.

We also have several other staffing changes and announcements. Mrs. Jessica Deal will also be leaving Nuckols Farm at the end of this school year as she has accepted a new position within the county. Mrs. Deal will be the Innovative Learning Coach (ILC) at Echo Lake next year. We are so excited for Mrs. Deal and wish her the best of luck in her new position.

Mrs. Jaclyn Claytor will be staying at Nuckols Farm, but will be transitioning to a new role for the 19-20 school year. Mrs. Claytor will serve as the Innovative Learning Coach (ILC) here at The Farm. She will be working collaboratively with all grade levels to support instruction through innovation and STEAM. Please join me in congratulating Mrs. Claytor on her new position!

There will also be grade level changes among our staff. Miss Meade, Mrs. Kirkland, and Miss Blanchetti will all be making the move to 2nd grade for the 19-20 school year.

Next year we will welcome aboard the following new members to our faculty:

  • Jack Bond – 4th grade
  • Emily Fitzgerald – 3rd Grade
  • Bailey Katselis – 2nd Grade
  • Katherine Griffeth – P.E.

This year has been incredible! I am so grateful to have the opportunity to work with your child/children each day. Nuckols Farm is the amazing school it is because of our caring, supportive, and kind community. I want to thank each of you for welcoming me into this community. I hope you all have a relaxing, rejuvenating, and fun-filled summer. I look forward to seeing you in the fall!

Mrs. Metzger

Thank you to these Faculty Members!

As the 2018-19 school year draws to a close, we say goodbye to four retiring faculty members.

Ann Tyler Allen is retiring after 35 years of teaching kindergarten, first grade, second grade, and third grade. As her older daughter entered Kindergarten, she began teaching at NFES at the same time! She has many wonderful memories of her time on the Farm, including the years when her daughters attended NFES. She said that she "won't ever drive by the school without thinking that Green Gate was once a corn field" and will "miss the children so much." She looks forward to watching them grow up and hearing about their many accomplishments! "Nuckols Farm is a tight family"and she will also "miss seeing my friends every day." Mrs. Allen is looking forward to having extra time to help her older daughter plan her fall wedding. "Teaching at Nuckols Farm was my dream job!"

Karen Cooke is retiring after 30 years of teaching and has been teaching at Nuckols Farm since it opened (21 years ago)! One of her favorite Farm memories is when the 4th grade had an overnight field trip to the Science Museum. She also fondly remembers a field trip to the Virginia Aviation Museum at the airport, hearing the planes flying over all night. She said that since she will miss so many things about watching children grow and discover, she plans to be a substitute! "There is something quite special about the faculty on the Farm and I think that is what I'll miss the most about this particular building." In addition to substituting, Mrs. Cooke plans to spend more time with her parents, volunteering, traveling, cooking, crafting, and "perhaps have a grand baby to spoil in the not too distant future!"

Kathy Sweeney is retiring after 34 years of teaching and 12 years on the Farm. Her fondest memory is a day when hunters were hunting across the street from the school during morning bus duty! She will miss all the kids on the Farm and hopes to travel, fish, and golf once she retires.

Freda Pressley, Instructional Assistant, is also retiring and will not be back on the Farm in September.

Thank you Mrs. Allen, Mrs. Cooke, Mrs. Sweeney, and Ms. Pressley for your amazing dedication and service to NFES! We will certainly miss you all next year but send our best wishes for a wonderful retirement!
