SUBJECT: News from the Farm - October 18, 2019

Notes from Mrs. Metzger

Fox Families,

We recently received our results from the Climate Survey that was completed in the spring. Last year, Henrico County Public Schools (HCPS) partnered with the Metropolitan Educational Research Consortium (MERC) in the School of Education to develop and administer an annual survey to students (grades 5-12), parents, and staff. The survey asked respondents to reflect on their experiences in HCPS over the past year in regards to the four cornerstones in the strategic plan: Safety and Wellness, Academic Growth, Equity and Opportunity, and Relationships. Thank you to the 145 parents who provided a response on this survey. Overall, Nuckols Farm performed very well in all areas. Some highlights from the survey among all stakeholders included:

Students can go to an adult for help
Adults care about students
NFES has safe practices within the building
Parents are welcome
Students are treated with respect
Staff have high expectations of learning for students

We appreciate your responses. We as a staff have also reflected on the feedback from this survey. As a school we are always looking to improve and ensure that we are providing a safe and positive learning environment that is reflective of equity and opportunity for all students each day.

It is hard to believe that we are approaching the end of October and the end of the first nine weeks. Below are a few upcoming dates to put on your calendar:

- Tuesday, October 22 - PTA Meeting – 3rd Grade Performance @ 7 pm

- Friday, October 25 - Fall Festival

- Thursday, October 24 - Individual and Class Picture Day

- Monday, October 28 – Student Half Day – Dismissal at 11:05 am

Thank you so much for all that you do each day!

In partnership,

Crystal Metzger

We need your Fall Festival help!

Our popular Fall Festival is scheduled for next Friday, October 25, 2019 from 5-7 pm. Adult volunteers are STILL needed to help make this popular event a success! Please sign up to volunteer through Membership Toolkit.

Tickets for the Fall Festival are also available online through Membership Toolkit. Online ticket sales will end on Monday, October 21, 2019. After that, ticket prices will increase and will only be available at the door.

Cake, cupcake and other baked good donations are also being accepted for the extremely popular Fall Festival Cake Walk. Look for more information about the Cake Walk in your child's backpack!

We are SO close!

We are at 90% membership…almost to our 100% goal! We only need 63 more members. If you have not joined PTA, please take a quick minute to join. It’s only $6 per person and we encourage both parents to join (using Membership Toolkit) to help us reach our goal. Thank you for supporting our PTA! Please contact Dana Hennesey, Membership Chair, if you have any questions.

Order a yearbook before prices increase!

NFES Yearbooks are a great keepsake of your child’s school year so be sure to order your copy before prices increase! The price is $20 and on November 3, the price for the yearbooks will increase to $25. NO EXTRA COPIES ARE ORDERED AND NO ORDERS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER DECEMBER 14.

Coaches Needed!

FIRST LEGO League, Jr. is a STEM-based program that introduces students to building and engineering concepts through the use of LEGOs and later, robotics. Coaching a Lego League is fun and engaging as it teaches students about science and technology. Please email Jenny Scott for more information.

Mark your Calendars!

Our Barnes and Noble Book Fair will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2019 from 10:00 am-4:00 pm. Look for more details coming home with your child soon!

Reflections Update!

We are at the height of our Reflections adventures and are so excited that we have had so many incredible students participate this year. All submissions were due Tuesday, October 15 by 4:00 pm. By noon that day, we had already inventoried 81 entries and looked forward to at least 38 more entries arriving before the deadline.

Many parents were able to complete the digital entry form and those that did not received paper copies to submit by Tuesday, October 22, 2019.

Judging will take place the first full week in November. Winners in each category will be announced at the NFES Reflections Ceremony to be held at the November PTA general meeting. Reflections families can join us at 6:30 pm in the gym to browse all entries and see their child’s hard work on display. Winners in each category will have their work forwarded to the HCCPTA competition.

Thanks again for the incredible support from parents, teachers, administration, and PTA board members. It has truly taken a village to make it special this year, and our village is amazing!

Our students have submitted beautiful works and what they have submitted is nothing short of inspiring! Congratulations to all of our participants and the amazing teams helping them make it to the finish line!
