SUBJECT: News from the Farm - October 30, 2020

NOTES FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Nuckols Farm Families,

Last Thursday, October 22, the School Board voted for students to return to in-person learning with the option for students to remain fully virtual.  Students in grades K-2 as well as students in our Social Integrated Services program will return on Monday, November 30 while students in grades 3-5 will return on Monday, December 7.

We are excited to welcome students back into our building should you choose this option for your child.  The division will be sending out a survey to families later today.  It will be open until Sunday, November 8.  We strongly encourage all families to complete this survey as it will help us to plan for the upcoming expansion of in-person learning.

As a result of the decision to expand in-person learning, changes have been made to the HCPS calendar.  Wednesday, November 4 and Thursday, November 12 are now asynchronous learning days for students.  Teachers will create and share self-guided plans for students to follow which will include completing activities and digital resource assignments.  Teachers will also post these plans on their Schoology site.

Thank you so much for your continued support of our school.  We look forward to working with you over the next few weeks as we prepare to welcome students back to The Farm.

Yours in Education,

Crystal Metzger, Principal

PTA NEWS

Hi, Fox Families-

Fall is in full swing and while each week may bring new challenges, the amazing efforts of NFES administration, faculty, staff, families, and students continue to make learning a positive experience.

I am happy to report that the 2020-21 PTA Budget has been approved, our Reflections program has received over 80 amazing entries, and another fun spirit event is being planned for November.

As a reminder, if you are interested in being a room parent this year, please fill out the interest form on Membership Toolkit, under “My Forms.” While we are looking for only one room parent per class, room parent number and responsibilities may change as the year progresses.

Please just let me know if you have any questions or concerns!

Carrie Settar

2020/21 PTA President

PTA Membership

We are at 89% PTA membership — SO close to our goal of 100%! Please consider joining if you have not already — we encourage each family (mom, dad, grandparents) at NFE to join. If you have any questions, contact Dana Hennesey.

REFLECTIONS UPDATE

We are at the peak of our Reflections year and are thrilled with all the wonderful creativity and submissions of our students. All entries were due Friday, October 23rd. We have inventoried 85 submissions and are so proud of all our NFE students!!

Judging will take place in the next week.  We plan to have a virtual Reflections ceremony where we will announce the winners in each category. We aim to have that ceremony the week of November 9th ~ more details to come very soon.  Winners in each category will have their work forwarded to the HCCPTA competition.

Thanks again for the incredible support from parents, teachers, administration, and PTA board members. It has truly taken a village to make it special this year, and our village is amazing!  Our students have submitted beautiful works and what they have submitted is nothing short of inspiring! Congratulations!

Moody Middle School IB Program

Nuckols Farm Elementary School’s feeder middle schools are Pocahontas and Short Pump Middle Schools, however, there is an optional and selective academic program called International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years, which is at Moody Middle School. This academic program includes a comprehensive curriculum for students who are highly motivated and who have demonstrated the ability to achieve academically. In addition to a well-rounded selection of courses, students focus on developing a wide variety of skills to help them think critically, organize carefully, communicate appropriately and reflect purposefully. Again, this is an optional program.

Applications are now available for students who want to apply for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Program at Moody Middle School. They are available on the Nuckols Farm School Counseling Schoology Page. Please watch this video to learn how to access and complete the application.

After watching the video, if you still have questions, please reach out to Mrs. Crockett, our school counselor. The full IB Timeline is available on Schoology, but for your quick reference, please check out these important dates:

October 5: Applications available to HCPS families through the Nuckols Farm School Counseling’s Schoology course

October 20: Moody Middle IB will host a virtual open house.

November 6: Applications are due to school counseling
