Notes from Mrs. Metzger

Dear Nuckols Farm Families –

Welcome Back! We are excited to welcome all of our Foxes back into the building, and we are working hard to prepare for their arrival. Our theme this year is “Kindness is the New Cool.” As always, it is our goal to create a safe and positive environment for all students. I invite you to join me in this quest as we move forward together to assist our students in becoming life-long learners, critical thinkers, and good citizens.

Below you will find some helpful information as you begin to prepare for the upcoming school year. Be sure to mark your calendars with the following dates:

*Monday, August 27

Homeroom Assignments will be available on PowerSchool Parent Portal and/or Rycor


*Thursday, August 30   Open House

Kindergarten: 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM

Tours for New Families: 10:00 AM

Last Names A – G (Grades 1-5): 10:30 AM – 11:30 AM

Last Names H – Z (Grades 1-5): 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM


*Tuesday, September 4 First Day of School

7:20 AM students may enter the building

Tardy Bell rings at 7:35 AM and class begins at 7:40 AM

Dismissal begins at 2:10 PM


*Thursday, September 20   Back to School Night – 6:00 PM

I look forward to a successful school year filled with student growth, academic achievement, and continued parent/ community involvement. Welcome Back from our President!

How has summer already come and gone, leaving us counting down until school starts? I hope it’s been a well-deserved break from your school routine and you’ve been able to spend some time with your family and friends. 

The school year is off to a great start, thanks to the wonderful PTA, who have been busy working this summer planning amazing things for our students.  Be sure you check the calendar for dates of all the events we have planned this year. I hope you will join me in making our new principal, Mrs. Crystal Metzger, feel welcome. If you haven’t met her, you will soon!  We are so lucky to have her lead the way at Nuckols Farm and we are so excited to have her as part of our school family.

  • Kindergarten - 9 am
  • New family tours - 10 am
  • Students in grades 1-5 (last names A-G) - 10:30-11:30 am
  • Students in grades 1-5 (last names H-Z) - 2-3 pm
 

Want to show your school spirit?! Check out this year's designs here. NFES spirit wear will be available in limited quantities at Open House on August 30 and online through Membership Toolkit until September 26. Please note that you will not be able to purchase spirit wear until early next week, after you receive the name of your child's teacher. ï»¿Questions? Welcome Back Fox Families! Each year, our students look forward to going back to school, seeing friends and participating in the fun and educational activities that our PTA offers. Please consider joining our PTA this year. Parents, grandparents, relatives, faculty and staff are all encouraged to join. 
The $6 per person membership fee includes local, state and national dues – and gives you exclusive access to our online student directory. Read more about membership discounts and cards, or contact Molly Snow, Membership Chair.
 

Calling all artists, musicians, writers, photographers, dancers and directors! Showcase your talents through this year's Reflections program. The theme is "Heroes Around Me," and entries are due Oct. 15. Contact Emily McKinney for additional details.

 

After School Enrichment Registration Opens September 10

Our fun and popular fall enrichment classes will be offered on Thursday afternoons beginning the week of October 4 from 2:15-3:15 pm. Offerings include Young Chefs (K-5), Drama (K-5), Intro to Sports (K-2), Science (K-2), Basketball (2-5) and Coding (2-5). Registration opens on September 10 and the registration deadline is September 16. Contact Ella Danilovich.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

The Teacher Workroom needs your help making copies and occasionally laminating for classroom teachers. Sign up for a grade level and day and spend 1-2 hours/week helping our fabulous teachers! You can also share your job with another volunteer. Contact Stephanie Denholm with questions or to learn more.

 

Cafeteria volunteers are needed each week to hand out supplies and to assist students with opening packages. Shifts are 11:10-12:10 and 12:00-1:00 each day during lunch. Sign up to volunteer through Membership Toolkit or contact Sue Boling.

 

We are looking for coaches for this awesome program! FIRST LEGO League, Jr. is a STEM-based program that introduces students to building and engineering concepts through the use of LEGOs and later, robotics. Coaching a Lego League is fun and engaging as it teaches students about science and technology. Please email Jenny Scott, Lego League Coordinator, for more information.

SCHOOL NEWS

Hello Nuckols Farm Families, 

I can’t believe we are preparing to come back to school! I hope your summer included some family time, sunshine, and lots of rest and relaxation. I am ready for another fantastic year on the farm. This will be my ninth year as the NFES school counselor and I’m looking forward to supporting all of our students academically, emotionally, socially, and in exploring the world of work!

New this year, applications will be accepted for NFE's Student Council Association (SCA) classroom representatives. These applications will be available in the main hallway. Only students in 3rd, 4th or 5th grades are eligible to apply.

Make a donation to purchase a library book in honor of your student's birthday (or half birthday), and help our library grow. Look for information in your Back to School folders.

 

Donate Extra School Supplies

NFE's Student Council Association (SCA) will sponsor a school supply drive for our sister school, Henrico's Johnson Elementary, from Aug. 27-Sept. 7. Supplies can be placed in the boxes in the main hallway during Open House or the first week of school.

Visit Kroger's Community Rewards web site to register your Kroger Plus card after checking out the registration instructions.

 

 Participate in our Box Tops program by looking for the Box Tops label on hundreds of products then clip the label, making sure the code in the upper left corner and the expiration date at the bottom are legible. Remember to send in your summer box tops either by attaching them to the summer collection sheet or by placing them in a baggie. Remember to include your new teacher's name! Additional Box Tops can be earned using the Box Tops Bonus App. Remember, every single Box Top counts!
