Notes from Mrs. Metzger

NFES Family Picnic

Foxes, make plans to join us on Wednesday, September 26 from 5:30-7 pm for the NFES Back-to-School Picnic. The picnic will take place on the blacktop and playground behind the school. Pizza will be provided by Marco’s Pizza and it must be pre-ordered for this event. We will not have extra pizza available. If you decide not to pre-order, just pack a picnic and come out to enjoy some music, sweetFrog, and the company of NFES students, families, and staff. For questions about the picnic, contact Erin Glisson at erintglisson@gmail.com.

In partnership,

Crystal Metzger, Principal

The Recycling Committee is looking for parent volunteers to help with recycling duties on Tuesday mornings from 7:15-8:00. The parent volunteers assist in supervising the recycling club student members, then empty the cart of collected recycling in the dumpster behind the school. For more information, contact Allegra Simmons.

Cafeteria volunteers are needed each week to hand out supplies and to assist students with opening packages. Shifts are 11:10-12:10 and 12:00-1:00 each day during lunch. Sign up to volunteer through Membership Toolkit or contact Sue Boling.

SCHOOL NEWS

Hello Parents, Students and Friends,

I am so excited to be teaching your wonderful and creative children once again this year. The first day of class we learned and talked about imagination, creativity, innovation, and collaboration. We worked on a collaborative project making original and unique sea creatures in small groups, for our underwater display. The “Sea of Creativity” is hanging outside the art room, has work by every student 1st- 5th, and looks amazing!

Art volunteers are needed occasionally and are appreciated to help out with a particular lesson or to hang up an art show. If you are interested, please email me at njdenijs@henrico.k12.va.us. I will put you on my list.

Tennis balls needed for the art stools- if you have any old ones, please send them to school.

We will be doing another collaborative project in the future and will be collecting old pieces of jewelry, metal, trinkets, beads, and any interesting small object. Feel free to send your old, unwanted goods to school any time.

Thanks very much,

Nancy J. de Nijs, Art Teacher

Short Pump Mile and Fun Run

Lace up your sneakers and sign up for the Short Pump Mile and Express Fun Run to be held on September 30, 2018 at Short Pump Town Center! We have the chance to earn cash prizes for our school's P.E. program. Check out the race website for information on how to register!

The SCA will be selling bottled water and crafts at the Fall Picnic on September 26. Be sure to stop by their table to show your support!

The SCA is asking for donations for an upcoming community service project. They are looking for travel-sized bath products (shampoo, soap, toothpaste, etc.) that would fit inside a paper towel roll. Please bring any items to Mrs. Stevens in Room B-10.

Our lost and found collection is already growing! Please be sure to write your child's name on items such as coats and jackets so that they can be returned to their owners!

The Cub Scouts Are Calling!

Please join NFES' local Cub Scout Pack 747 at the Cub Scout Recruiting Rally on Tuesday, September 25 from 7-8 PM in the NFES cafeteria. Learn more about fun Cub Scout adventures and sign up to join Pack 747 for the 2018-19 school/scouting year. Contact Jon Abbott or Ruth Bazile with any questions.

SUPPORT THE FARM EVERY TIME YOU SHOP OR EAT!

An Important Change!

In order for NFES to continue earning money from the Kroger Community Rewards Program, all participants must re-enroll this year! Check out the registration instructions or contact Karen Szobota with questions.

We are off to a great start!  Summer collection sheets have been coming in and are being counted toward the school-year-long contest. A huge thank you for only submitting non-expired Box Tops. Keep clipping and sending in what you have on the September collection sheets and get ready for a mini contest coming in October!

Visit AmazonSmile and choose Nuckols Farm Elementary PTA as your charitable organization. Contact Karen Szobota, Business Rewards Coordinator.

Need a quick meal idea? Order online from J. Rocco’s Pizza (select Nuckols Farm in the fundraising tab), or order online from Papa John’s (use code NFES). Both options benefit NFE and are valid all year!
