SUBJECT: News from the Farm - February 8, 2019

Notes from Mrs. Metzger

Fox Families,

Thank you so much for the amazing support on January 31 at our Chick-fil-A Spirit Night. It was a huge success! The staff at Chick-fil-A stated that it was the “biggest, busiest Spirit Night ever!” Within the two hour timeframe, we incurred a total of $3118.04 in sales earning our school $623.60! This could not have been possible without your support. We are excited to explore how to spend these funds to support instruction in the classroom. We look forward to the PTA Spirit Night on February 27 at Boomerang being just as successful. Way to go Foxes!

SCHOOL NEWS

Can you solve the Rubik's Cube?

If your child is interested in solving the Rubik’s Cube, or in improving his or her speed in solving the cube, or in besting everyone else at solving the cube, please read on…

We are preparing for the Regional Rubik’s Cube Competition! NFES will have a team of 8 students and 2 alternates to take to the Competition. If your child is interested in being a part of our team, we will have practices on Tuesday, February 26; Thursday, February 28; and Tuesday, March 5 from 2:15-3:00 pm in Mr. Wasserman’s classroom (A-3).

Students may come to 1 or all 3 of these practices in order to be timed, to practice, and to have fun! Bring an official Rubik’s cube with the Rubik’s logo. No speed cubes allowed.

The 10 fastest students, as timed by March 5, will be on the the NFES Team! Those selected will be invited to the Team Practices from 2:15-3:00 pm on the following Fridays: March 15 and March 22.

The students on the NFES Team must be able to attend the Regional Competition on Thursday, March 28 from 4:00-6:30 pm at Holman Middle School.  Contact Mr. Wasserman with any questions.

News from the Art Room

Thanks to my art volunteers who have helped out this year in the classroom and by putting up shows. There will be additional opportunities coming soon, especially when I use clay with the younger students. If anyone is interested in being an art volunteer, please email me at njdenijs@henrico.k12.va.us.

Supplies needed for the art room: glue sticks, old tennis balls for chairs, and wipes.

Thank you for sharing your wonderful and creative children with me!

Author to Visit NFES!

We are looking forward to an author visit from Michelle Nelson-Schmidt on March 18! She will visit with all grade levels and her message will include the concepts of following your dreams, trying new things, friendship, self-confidence, bullying, literacy, and art.

This year, we will be providing the opportunity for families to pre-order Mrs. Nelson-Schmidt’s books. She will sign all pre-ordered books and students will receive them the day of her visit! A pre-order form was sent home this week and students will have until February 12 to turn them in to Ms. Young in the library.

To learn more about author/illustrator Michelle Nelson-Schmidt, check out her website at https://mnscreative.com/. If you have questions, feel free to contact Ms. Young, School Librarian.

February 4-8 was National School Counseling Week and NFES is incredibly fortunate to have Mrs. Crockett as our school counselor. Thank you, Mrs. Crockett, for all you do for our students on the Farm!
