News from Mrs. Merriam

Happy New Year!

Finally we are able to regroup and move forward with 2018! I hope each of you enjoyed the cold time off and kept warm and dry! Our students are keeping plenty busy with Peyton P.’s representing us this Monday (yes, our day off!) at the Martin Luther King Lights of Hope Ceremony. She is a very deserving Nuckols Farm fifth grader. As well, please join me in wishing Sam S. the best of luck in the HCPS Spelling Bee at 7 pm on Jan. 19 at Hungry Creek Middle School. Our Reflections First Place winners will be honored at an HCPS reception on Feb. 12. Those winners include Charlotte W., Emily W., Avery W., Layla D., Henry P., Caleb S., Kate G., and Noah C. Unfortunately with our missing school last Friday, our Elk’s Free Throw winners remain unannounced. We should have news by our next newsletter about this fun feat!

Our Variety Show participants are working hard rehearsing for our Jan. 23 performance. In order to lessen the number of attendees in the evening, there will be a dress rehearsal during that day so that our students will have all seen the acts. Families of the participants will really enjoy their evening performance at our 7 pm PTA meeting.

Looking forward, I would like to suggest that each family make a New Year’s Resolution to be at school on time if you have had trouble in this area. Being at school on time and being able to unpack, collect one’s thoughts, and not miss the explanations for classwork or “Morning Meeting” is so important not only for academic reasons, but also for setting a positive tone for the day socially and emotionally. If you have a recurring reason for tardiness, please set the alarm to an earlier wake up time.

Hope each of you enjoys a wonderful day off on Monday, and I look forward to spending some great time with our foxes for the rest of January.

Lisa Merriam

Enjoy an Evening with Fellow Foxes

Spirit Night at Boomerang Air Sports (205 Towne Center West Blvd.) is Thursday, Jan. 18 from 4-5:15 pm (K-2nd) and 5:15-6:30 pm (3rd-5th). Families with students in multiple grades can select the time that works best for them. Cost is $17/person. We will also have all party rooms reserved for dinner - purchase a $5 pizza, drink, cookie combo (cash only).

Be sure to purchase tickets and complete the waiver in advance to speed up the check-in process. (If you plan to participate from 5:15-6:30, purchase tickets for the 5:30 time slot and arrive by 5:15 to take advantage of the extra minutes.) Hope to see you there!

NFE's Variety Show is Coming!

Students involved in the Variety Show will have their last two rehearsals on Jan. 17 and 22. Both rehearsals will end at 3:30 pm. The big show will take place on Jan. 23 at 7 pm. (Students will see a performance during the school day so families of participants can enjoy the evening program.) We can’t wait to see our talented Foxes on stage!
